DR. JACKIE M. ALLEN

 

Jackie M. Allen, Ed.D., is a nationally certified counselor, nationally certified school counselor, a California licensed Marriage Family Therapist, and certificated in clinical neuropsychology.  She has worked as an English and Spanish teacher in middle school, as a high school counselor, an elementary bilingual school psychologist, a secondary school psychologist, and an education programs consultant in student support services for the California Department of Education.  Currently Dr. Allen is an associate professor at the University of La Verne, La Verne, California, and founder and chair of the school psychology credential and master’s program at that institution.

          

Active in state and national organizations, Dr. Allen is a former president of the American School Counselor Association, served two terms on the American Counseling Association Governing Council, and has served in other numerous positions for national counselor organizations.  She has served as president of the California School Counselor Association, president of the California Association for Counseling and Development, president of the California Women’s Caucus, and currently is president of the California Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors and the Counselor Educator/Supervisor Representative for the California Association of School Counselors, Inc. (CASC).  She has served on the California State Attendance Review Board and has been the chair of the California Alliance of Pupil Personnel Service Organizations.  She was appointed to the Little Hoover Commission Children’s Mental Health Advisory Committee and worked on the Mandated (Child Abuse) Reporter Training Development Ad Hoc Committee developing guidelines for Child Abuse Reporter Training in California.  She recently worked on the committee to develop California School Counselor Standards.  She is the co-Chair of the H.B. McDaniel Foundation.  She is a member of the Board of Institutional Review for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and a member of the University of La Verne Institutional Review Board.  

          

Dr. Allen has been honored with the Clarion Model Award for service and leadership, the H.B. McDaniel Individual Award for statewide work in counseling and psychology (2003) and inducted into the H.B. McDaniel Foundation Hall of Fame (2005).  She was honored by the Pupil Services Coalition for her advocacy on part of student support professionals while Education Program Consultant.

 

Jackie is an accomplished presenter to national and international forums, presenting across the United States and in Australia, Argentina, Canada, China, Costa Rica, England, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Russia, Spain, Viet Nam, Thailand, and the Virgin Islands.  Her research and writing interests include advocacy for accountability, action-oriented research, Response to Intervention, student support service models and program evaluation, the child in crisis in the classroom, neuropsychological and bilingual assessment, career counseling for the special needs student, and brain-based learning. 

 

Dr. Allen is the editor of the CASC newsmagazine in which she writes a column entitled “Jackie’s Jottings” and originator and editor of the CASC annual monograph.  She has authored and co-authored numerous documents and articles including Local Proactive Counseling Leadership Compendium, the Action-Oriented Research Desk Guide for Professional School Counselors, School Counseling: Collaborating For Student Success, Counseling the Special Needs Student, Addressing Fragmentation-Building Integrated Services For Student Support, and The Professional School Counselor: Decision-Making Facilitator and Agent of Change.  She is editor of the popular book: School Counseling: New Perspectives and Practices and her new book—Empowering the 21st Century Professional School Counselor.
